Volvo launches Positioning+ vehicle monitoring service

Manufacturer says new vehicle tracker offers efficiency and safety benefits

Volvo Trucks has unveiled a new tracking service for transport operators, Positioning+, that monitors a vehicle’s geographical location in real-time.

A supplement to the manufacturer’s Dynafleet fleet management system, Positioning+ operates in minute increments and relays the trucks location to back-office staff.

Knowing a vehicle’s location is pivotal in terms of both safety and efficiency for companies who transport high-value or time-critical goods, Volvo Trucks product specialist Johan Östberg says.

“One good example is the concrete industry,” Östberg says.

“Timing is everything – down to the very minute the truck must roll up to take delivery of its load of concrete. When mixing concrete, the mixture is individually adjusted to match the time needed for loading and the time needed for delivery and casting.

“With Positioning+ it is possible to precisely determine when the truck will arrive and to prepare the concrete blend accordingly.”

The service can also be tailored to alert or message staff when a truck reaches a predetermined geographical area or diverts from the planned route.

“If a truck deviates from its route, the system issues an alert,” Östberg says. “This creates a safer, more secure working environment for drivers hauling high-value goods.”

Volvo Trucks Australia says Positioning+ will arrive in Australia later this year.
