Caltex endorses Telematics Solution benefits

Caltex is using Telematics technology to provide real-time diagnostic alerts for fleet owners

Caltex says its recently released Telematics Solution is the first in the Australian market to provide fleet owners and managers with real-time engine diagnostic alerts, driver mechanical behaviours, and a predictive failure and maintenance capability. It is also claimed to offer standard location-based features available in traditional GPS/Telematics systems.

Caltex says the Telematics technology, which is powered by Traffilog Fleet Management Solutions, is fully integrated into a vehicle’s engine management and diagnostic system, allowing it to provide unprecedented insights into the performance of both vehicles and drivers with simple and easy-to-understand dashboards and reports.

According to Caltex, the configurable technology identifies potential problems early, which means lowering maintenance costs and downtime, keeping fleets safe, running efficiently and on the road longer.

Because of the connection to the vehicle CANbus, Caltex explains that the engine data is collected, interpreted and correlated by complex algorithms, allowing it to detect potential mechanical failures.

It is said to ultimately simplify the complex task of fleet management in a cost-effective, safe and efficient manner, and reduces the chances of unforeseen breakdowns. Caltex says the solution includes an Intelligent Telematics Unit (ITU), driver feedback unit, driver ID recognition, and a Cloud-based Fleet Management solution.

The Cloud-based software is reported to help manage and optimise fleet efficiency by offering access to a range of traditional and innovative features in real time. It is dashboard driven, which Caltex says gives access to interpreted data, hence only needing to focus on areas that require further investigation across key fields.

These include live asset tracking/location, driver profile, fleet profile, and an overall efficiency centre covering fuel efficiency, mechanical skills, safety events and mechanical events.
