The speed limit on a section of the Princes Highway at South Bega will be adjusted to improve road safety.
A Transport for NSW (TfNSW) spokesperson says to reduce the likelihood of crashes, a two kilometre section of the highway will be reduced from 100 km/h to 80 km/h from 220 metres north of Newtown Road to 300 metres south of Max Slater Drive.

“The speed zone reduction is recommended due to the potential for right-angle crashes at the intersections with Newtown Road, Kerrisons Lane and Max Slater Drive,” the spokesperson says.
“The reduction was also recommended based on a high casualty rate at the location.
“The last five years of validated crash data recorded five crashes within the area resulting in three people suffering serious injuries, three moderately injured and two people with minor injuries.”
The speed zone change is estimated to add 28 seconds to travel times.
In response to concerns, the speed zone review was initiated at the Bega Valley Shire Local Traffic Committee, with various stakeholders including NSW Police, bus operators, the school and local residents raising concerns for safety at this location.
Work to install the signage will occur on Tuesday 18 February.
To provide advanced warnings of the changes, electronic message board will be on site one week prior to the speed zone change and will remain in place for two weeks after.
Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.
A speed zone review is a comprehensive process that includes site inspections, analysis of the current road environment and road condition, consideration of crash data and traffic volumes.
