Buyers chase big bangers

Several major heavy-duty truck brands experienced increased buyer interest on Bauer Media Group’s truck classifieds network in the first half of 2020


Daimler brands Freightliner and Mercedes-Benz, along with Kenworth and Sterling, experienced the biggest year-on-year (YoY) increases in enquiries on the Bauer Media Group truck classifieds network in the period January 1–June 15, 2020, exclusive new data reveals.

Despite suffering a 19 per cent decline in searches YoY, the Ford Sterling clearly remains a popular used truck in Australia, with enquiries jumping 33 per cent in the period. Most of the items for sale are set up as agitators and tippers.

Daimler brands Mercedes-Benz (+19 per cent) and Freightliner (+13 per cent) also registered increased enquiries, despite experiencing drops in search volumes of -36 per cent and -4 per cent respectively; while Kenworth generated both increased search volumes (+8 per cent) and enquiries (+18 per cent).

Other brands garnering higher enquiries included Hino (+7 per cent) and Isuzu (+6 per cent); while Fiat (+69 per cent), Bedford (+48 per cent), Nissan (+6 per cent), Western Star (+6 per cent and Fuso (+4 per cent) all attracted greater search volumes.

Conversely, International (-207 per cent), MAN (-78 per cent), DAF (-48 per cent), CAT (+43 per cent), Iveco (-29 per cent), UD (-29 per cent), Western Star (-25 per cent) and Volvo (-14 per cent) all suffered YoY declines in enquiries.
