Detours in place for Wallendbeen Bridge repairs after truck crash

Heavy vehicles will be forced to detour around the bridge in the next week following a recent truck crash in the area

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) has told the industry that heavy vehicle detours are in place due to work beginning on a temporary road-over-rail bridge on the Burley Griffin Way.

The Wallendbeen Bridge works begin this month to repair damage caused by a truck crash. Transport for NSW (TfNSW) says repair work begins Tuesday January 28 and will take up to six days to complete.

Burley Griffin Way will be re-opened to traffic on Sunday February 2 between Stockinbingal and Wallendbeen.

Burley Griffin Way is a key route on the network linking the Hume Highway to the Riverina and the Olympic and Newell highways. The new permanent bridge will return a two-lane crossing to motorists, improving safety and travel times on this important freight corridor.

Operators are advised of changes to local traffic conditions during the essential repair work, with Silo Road and Morrisons Hill Road intersections with Burley Griffin Way closing until work is completed.

Various detours are in place for light and heavy vehicles and TfNSW encourages travellers to check Live Traffic for up-to-date information and follow the direction of traffic control and signage.

Heavy vehicle operators that do not comply with the various detours, will need to apply for a permit amendment to travel during the repair work time period. The NHVR has notified the affected permit holders via email.
