Mercedes-Benz Econic World Premier at ITTES

Mercedes-Benz to host “world premiere” of concept waste truck in Australia

The world’s first dual control Mercedes-Benz Econic garbage truck will be launched at the International Truck and Trailer Show in Melbourne next month.

The 6×2 Econic will also be the first of the new generation Euro VI Benz trucks to arrive in Australia.

“We are thrilled to be holding the world debut of the dual control Econic concept truck at the 2014 Melbourne Truck Show,” says Justin Whitford, General Manager Mercedes-Benz Truck & Bus in Australia.

“Obviously at this stage the truck is a concept, however we are very keen to gauge the interest within the waste industry and to build on the success of the current generation Econic,” Whitford says.

“We are also pleased to be previewing the first of the new generation of Mercedes-Benz Trucks in Australia.”

At the front of the new Econic is a new radiator grille, stronger bumpers and standard LED daytime running lights.

Mercedes says the spacious low entry set-forward cab with its ergonomic entry and exit has been “rigorously upgraded” to make working more efficient.

The new arrangement of the power units behind the cab as well as other alterations to the frame makes mounting bodies easier, the company says.

And despite the increased weight of additional Euro VI emission control components it has been possible to retain the payload due to weight-saving measures on the chassis and frame.

The Mercedes-Benz BlueTec 6 engine technology combines SCR (selective catalytic reduction) with EGR (cooled exhaust gas recirculation) and a particulate filter.

The 6-cylinder diesel produces 300hp (220kW) and 1,200 Nm of torque. Check out all the Melbourne Truck Show news, as well as a guide to the show here.
