‘The Warhorse’ returns for 2015 Truck Show

Affectionately known as ‘The Warhorse’, rugby league legend Shane Webcke, a veteran of 21 State of Origins and 263 first-grade games for the Brisbane Broncos, will make it a trifecta of appearances when he returns as the Brisbane Truck Show ambassador in 2015

Popular Channel Seven sports reporter Shane Webcke will return as the public face in all print, radio and television commercials and pre-show promotional events for Australia’s premier transport industry’s event — the 2015 Brisbane Truck Show.

Noelene Bradley, Brisbane Truck Show Manager for the Commercial Vehicle Industry Association of Queensland (CVIAQ), says the re-appointment of Webcke as the show’s ambassador was driven primarily by the positive feedback received from the 2013 show attendees and exhibitors.

Webcke’s high public profile, both through sport and now as a TV presenter, together with the fact that Webcke has a genuine passion and direct interest in the transport industry, makes him a powerful advocate for the event.

“Shane [Webcke] is very well respected in all aspects of his life, not just his football,” Bradley says.

“He is a very competent speaker, he is an intelligent man, and he’s had real experience in our industry.

“He is a Queensland statesman. That’s what the CVIAQ is looking for and Shane fits the bill perfectly.”

Webcke is overjoyed to be involved in the show for the third year in succession.

“The ambassador role represents a dream job,” he says.

“Growing up on a farm around machinery and trucks. I’ve always loved this sort of thing.

“I’ve attended the show on many occasions and know firsthand how good it is.

“Since the show’s relocation in 2011 to the world-class Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre and with my appointment as the show’s ambassador, I have gained an appreciation of the overall significance of the show’s contribution, not only to the industry, but to the Queensland economy and tourism industry.

“The economic impact assessment results from the 2013 study identified that the show generated $61.2 million of additional expenditure to our state’s economy, along with filling every hotel and function space within the Brisbane CBD and outer regions,” he adds.

Webcke explains, as part of his MC and ambassador duties, he is fortunate to be involved in the show’s Industry Career Centre and Apprentice Challenge Competition, which plays an important role in improving workforce participation, highlighting potential career paths for kids, and showing the wider public what’s going on in the industry and its importance to the Queensland way of life.

“From my point of view it’s a dream job as it involves what I love. I look forward to seeing you all there,” Webcke says.

“Exhibitors should not miss this chance to showcase their business and services directly to attendees”.
