Canberra’s Rise Above Cancer Convoy is set to attract an even larger nomination of trucks and audience participation due to its move from March to Sunday, February 9 this year.

Trucks and motorbikes will begin early in the morning at the industrial suburb of Beard, near Queanbeyan before departing at 9.30am, making its way to the Exhibition Park in Canberra (EPIC).

Starting on Copper Crescent, Baird the convoy will travel along Norse Road, Canberra Ave, Hindmarsh Drive, Monaro Highway, Majura Parkway, Morshead Drive, Parkes Way, Caswell Drive, Gungahlin Drive, Sanford St and then Flemington Road to EPIC.

The best spectator viewing positions are at Canberra Avenue, Parkes Way, Sanford St and Flemington Road.

At EPIC, a family fair will take place including live entertainment from trio Sliverchair, a Silverchair tribute band.

Other activities include children’s activities including amusement rides, plus plenty of food outlets.

Truck entry for the convoy is $50, which includes a registration pack containing a T-shirt, stubby cooler, sticker, entrant sticker and convoy information booklet.

The Convoy is run by Rise Above, which started as the Cancer Support Group in 1985.

Rise Above provides financial assistance and support to cancer patients and their family residing with them within the ACT, Queanbeyan and surrounds.

A charitable organisation, the group relies on fundraising, community partners, the generosity of businesses and the local community, to meet the needs of the increasing number of families that require assistance.

"If it wasn’t for the ‘truckie’ and‘bikie’ community, Rise Above wouldn’t be here," said Melissa Melissa Gardner, CEO of Rise Above, following the 2019 convoy.

The Rise Above Cancer Convoy is the organisation’s biggest fundraiser, with the 2019 event bringing in $378,000. With truck numbers capped at 400, Rise Above says early registration is a must.
