When the new bypass opens at the end of 2026 it will become the Pacific Highway and Transport for NSW is keen to get community suggestions on a new name for it.
Coffs Harbour bypass project director Greg Nash says the new name would be dedicated to the current highway between the Englands Road Roundabout at North Boambee to the Korora interchange.
“The new road name will be used for postal addresses and feature on directional signage, so will be very important for the residents and businesses along the route,” he says.
“Giving this section of the current highway a new name benefits transport and emergency services that rely on easily identified postal addresses to avoid confusion or delays.”
Impacted residents and business have been approached by TfNSW, asking for their suggestions.
TfNSW will start a formal advertising process with the wider community following a list of responses from those directly impacted.
Based on community feedback, a name will be chosen and submitted to the Geographical Names Board, which will be the final determining authority for the road name.
The new name for the current highway will come into effect once the bypass is open to traffic and officially becomes the Pacific Highway. Until then the current highway will remain as the Pacific Highway.
To provide feedback email CoffsHarbourBypass@rms.nsw.gov.au. Submissions close 5pm Friday May 16.
