An enormous superload will be on the move from the Port of Melbourne next week, causing significant disruption for road users along the way.
A generator will be transported on an oversized vehicle measuring approximately 125 metres long and 6.5 metres wide, in a complex operation escorted by numerous escort vehicles and co-pilots.
The superload will leave the Port of Melbourne at 10pm on Monday February 3 and will arrive at Loy Yang A Power Station by 5am, Friday February 7.
Transport Victoria has urged drivers to “stay well clear” of the load, both when it is in transit and when it is parked.
“If you need to travel during the time the transport is on the road, plan ahead or seek an alternate route to avoid delays,” a spokesperson said.
The transport operation will travel at speeds of 25 km/hr on average. There will be times when travelling over bridges or around corners where they will need to slow to around five km/hr.
There will be opportunities to pass when it is safe, but road users are asked to be patient.
The superload will be travelling at night to reduce the impact on the road network.
