Three new members join the TruckSafe ranks

Transport industry accreditation program welcomes new members

TruckSafe has three new members with GRS Towing, Strasburg Bros Livestock Carriers and H Dowling & Sons joining the accreditation program this week.

Welcoming the companies into the fold, TruckSafe chairman Stephen Marley congratulated them on completing the requirements to maintain work practices, driver training and health, vehicles and management systems.

“I’m proud to welcome GRS Towing, Strasburg Bros Livestock Carriers and H Dowling & Sons to the TruckSafe program, and commend them on making the decision to put safety first in their business,” Marley says.

Based in New South Wales, GRS Towing provides heavy vehicle accident and towing services across Sydney, Marulan, Mount White, Mount Victoria and interstate.

GRS Towing managing director Barry Hunt says the company’s goal is to provide the fastest and safest heavy vehicle recovery possible.

“In this business, we see heavy vehicle accidents day in, day out – it really drives it home that it’s essential to have a good compliance system in your business,” Hunt says.

“It shows you’re reliable, and gives you the backing you need when things go wrong.

“We joined TruckSafe to promote our professionalism, and to give ourselves some benchmarks to meet in our business. I’d rather have a system and audits to help us make sure we’re on top of things internally, than wait until the authorities have to point things out.”

The second new member, Strasburg Bros Livestock Carriers, has been carting cattle for 37 years throughout Queensland and parts of Northern Territory.

A TruckCare member since 2003, Strasburg director Lester Strasburg says companies need to be on board with both accreditations.

“You’ve just got to be in TruckSafe and TruckCare – it keeps everyone happy, including your clients,” Strasburg says.

“We’re proud of having really good employees who do the right thing. We could make the business bigger, but then you wouldn’t know everyone in it.

“I don’t want to go past the local fellows – we’ve got some people who have been with us for 30, 32 years.”

The third member to be welcomed into the program, H Dowling & Sons, began in Biggenden in 1936 transporting cream to a butter factory but has evolved into livestock transport.

The Queensland company has been TruckCare accredited since 2005.
