NHVR accreditation scheme education hits SA

National Heavy Vehicle Regulator looks to standardise the National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme through auditor education programs

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) is targeting industry maintenance standards and safety at two-day auditor training program currently underway in Adelaide.

During the course, heavy vehicle auditors are honing their understanding of the National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme (NHVAS) to better ensure transport operators are remaining compliant.

“The operation of safe and well maintained vehicles on our road network is important for all road users,” NHVR executive director productivity and safety Geoff Casey says.

“We are enhancing the NHVAS through better quality procedures and processes identified through rationalised auditing.”

The program, which will tour the country, is run by NHVR qualified trainers and is part of a number of changes made to the NHVAS business rules and standards this year.

The changes spawned from the NHVR assuming full control of the scheme in March, overseeing its management, monitoring and registration.

“These changes standardised the way audits are conducted and strengthened the quality of their content,” Casey says.

“Successful audits of a heavy vehicle operator’s compliance are critical for entry and retaining NHVAS accreditation.

“These auditors will assist industry achieve a more rigorous, risk based approach to managing the maintenance of their fleet.”

The appearance in Adelaide follows a similar course conducted in Melbourne last month, where all 28 attendees passed the NHVR’s auditor competency requirements.
