CALL OUT: Did you drive for CAT or TNT between 1975 and 1995?

Did you subcontract for Complete Auto Transit (CAT) and TNT Car Carrying between 1975 and 1995?

Terry and Lila Wood are organising a reunion for former Complete Auto Transit (CAT) and TNT Car Carrying subcontractors.

They hope drivers who subcontracted for these companies between 1975 and 1995 will go along to the reunion at the Lawson Motor Inn, Wagga Wagga, on Saturday, September 30.

“I’m expecting anything from 60 to 80 people,” says Terry who lives in Wagga Wagga. “We’re not actually sending invitations because we haven’t got phone numbers and addresses.”

Terry and Lila were reminiscing with other former TNT Car Carrying subbies, Jim and Marg Espie of Benalla and Dennis Bowden of Tarcutta, when Owner//Driver visited them recently.

“At CAT, we were a big family,” says Marg who has fond memories of up to 14 CAT subbies chatting around a table at a café in Gilgandra, NSW.

The Espies began driving two-up for CAT in 1979. They stayed with the company after it was purchased by TNT Car Carrying in 1982. Jim and Marg clocked up 30 years with the company – including four years in Tasmania – before they stopped carrying cars in 2009. (By then TNT Car Carrying was known as CEVA.)

Terry and Lila operated as a two-up TNT Car Carrying team from 1986 to 1993. “The car carrying side of TNT had depots at every capital city,” Terry says. “They had small sub-depots all over Australia, so they covered everywhere.”

For Terry, a highlight of their TNT years was carrying the famous Knight Rider car, KITT, along the Hume Highway.

He looks forward to sharing a meal and “a good old laugh” with trucking mates at the reunion.

To book or for more information, phone Lila on 02 6925 1868 or request to join the ‘CAT TNT Reunion’ Facebook group.

For catering purposes it is essential to book and pay for meals before August 31.

The Woods and Espies share their car carrying memories in the March issue of Owner//Driver.
