A Current Affair walk a mile in truckie’s shoes

A Current Affair (ACA) last night took a closer look at who the worst offenders on our roads are...truckies or car drivers.

From the cab of a truck, ACA reporter Martin King took a closer look at what Australia’s truckies put up with out on the roads.

The latest story is a follow-up from one that King did ten years ago, but this time car drivers appeared to be the bigger danger.

Dashcams have proven a game changer in capturing idiotic driving behaviour, and this story shows just how dangerous car drivers are making our roads.

Outspoken critic of ‘cowboy’ operators, 3AW presenter Neil Mitchell, commended truckies but suggest restricting them to one lane.

“The truckies seem to be doing a better job, but it was the car drivers that were more of a worry,” Mitchell said in the ACA story.

“They’re trying to do business but why can’t we keep them in one lane, it works in Europe, why not here?”

Grimshaw ended the broadcast by clarifying that the latest data shows in fatal car and truck crashes 93% of the time the truck driver was not at fault.
