Kenworth Legend raffle a hit for footy club

The Hepburn Football and Netball Club have cracked $1 million in their annual fundraiser, raffling off the keys to a brand spanking new Kenworth Legend 900

One lucky winner will leave the country footy club on Saturday March 2 in the limited edition Kenworth valued at $384,000, build number 137 of just 257 built in Bayswater.

A range of other prizes will be drawn on the day, with pre-paid Visa cards ranging from $5,000 up to $20,000 on offer for those in the draw.

“The Kenworth raffle carried a total prize pool of nearly $430,000 and offered exceptional odds,” Club President Jason Dooley says.

Jason tells us the tickets were in hot demand, selling out and cracking the million dollar mark for the club.

“Tickets cost $1000 each but with only 1,000 tickets on offer it took just 10 months to sell out,” he says.

The idea for the fundraising came about when Kenworth announced the Legend 900, Jason explains, with a long history of truck raffles within the club.

“Back in the 90’s we raffle three 900’s, and once the Legend 900 became a reality we just saw it as a one off chance to go again!

“It’s just a special truck,” he says.

He’s no stranger to Kenworths himself, having driven many over the years with fond memories of the older models.

“I’ve driven Kenworths all my life…I drove W models and T600s and a few 900s too,” Jason says.

“I’ve always been a bit of a Kenworth nut.”

But fundraising isn’t all this country footy club knows how to do and the Hepburn Burras are proud to have taken out nine Central Highlands Football League senior premierships.

Jason encourages people to come down for the raffle draw on Saturday, to celebrate the local club’s success and share in the excitement for the lucky Kenworth winner.

“The draw will be at the clubrooms, Twentieth Street, Hepburn on March 2 at 2.00pm. From 12 noon there’ll be free barbeque lunch and beverages for ticketholders and a jumping castle for the kids,” he says.

“Everyone is welcome. Bring your own truck along for everyone to have a look at.”

The funds raised will go towards renovations and improved facilities for the club, Jason tells us.

“Our goal is to have enough money to renovate and extend our clubrooms, because they’re pretty dilapidated.

“We’re trying to get a grant to renovate our change rooms but we also want to extend the rooms at the club,” he explains.

Kenworth DAF Melbourne salesman Ron Ludbrook says he first heard from the club when they decided last year to raffle a truck and raise some money to upgrade facilities.

“They used to raffle 900’s back in the 90’s and so they gave me a call and said they were thinking about doing a T900 raffle.

The team at Kenworth DAF Melbourne made sure the truck got plenty of exposure, taking it to local shows and putting it on display for the public.

“I went up there and had a look and said, ‘I think we’re going to need more than one truck!’ So we ordered the truck and we took it to Alexandra Truck Show, Deniliquin Truck Show, and we’ve also had it on Display at the dealership in Derrimut.”

Between us, that’s got to be the cheapest way anyone’s managed to land them self a Legend 900! Owner//Driver will catch up with the winner in the coming weeks.
