Heavy weight champion

Brisbane-based truck and trailer supplier MTP Queensland has been servicing the heavy freight transport and mining industries for many decades. It has recently sold a million-dollar combination – a 200-tonne-rated Volvo prime mover coupled with a 200-tonne MTE platform trailer and a 2x8 dolly – to a local company

A white Volvo Globetrotter cab hitched with a 10-row steerable platform trailer and coupled to a 2×8 dolly is making a U-turn along a suburban road. A tall order for a 200 tonne-rated combination but when you combine Volvo’s heavy-duty strength and performance with Modern Transport Engineers (MTE’s) expert design and manoeuvrability, it does look easy.

MTE’s 10R8 Module trailer model features hydraulic suspension with an internal hydraulic gooseneck and hydraulic steering. The trailer was recently sold along with a 2×8 dolly and a used Volvo Globetrotter prime mover by Brisbane-based truck and trailer supplier, MTP Queensland.

MTP specialises in the sale of quality used equipment in the range of 50 to 250 tonnes on road. All its equipment is ready for use and available at well below showroom prices. MTP also has capabilities to source new equipment, as needed. It also supplies off-road units including mine site prime movers and trailer units in the range of 100 to 500 tonnes.

Recently, MTP has seen some good sales growth, including the sale of a Kenworth K Series 550hp (410kW) truck, coupled to a Drake 4×4 dolly neck steerable deck widener with a 2×4 dolly to suit a 90-tonne combination. It has also sold a 175 tonne-rated Mack Titan coupled to a Drake 4×8 swing wing low loader and a 2×8 dolly with a 100-tonne capacity; and a 130 tonne-rated 525hp (392kW) International Transtar coupled to a Drake 4×8 swing wing and a 2×8 dolly to carry 100 tonne-capacity loads.

MTP has also recently sold a few units overseas, including a 4×8 Drake swing wing hydraulic widening low loader and a 2×8 low loader dolly for a 100-tonne combination trailer, and a 4×8 steerable jinker and associated equipment for a 75-tonne trailer to customers based in Papua New Guinea; and a 3×8 Drake swing wing low loader rated for a 75-tonne trailer to a customer in Fiji.

MTP has a long association with some of the most respected names in the market. Its link with Drake Trailers dates back to 1964 and today it supplies a variety of Drake units, including the swing wing range of low loaders, custom builds, dollies, modules, platforms and steerable units. MTP also supplies a range of used Allison low loaders – now part of the Lusty Trailer Group. The line-up includes low loaders, dollies and swing wing units.

MTP started trading with Queensland-based Haulmark Trailers in 1964 and has since supplied a range of low loaders, dollies, swing wing units and steerable platforms to customers in the earthmoving, mining, construction and heavy-duty freight sectors.

Since 1995, MTP has also supplied the MTE range of low loaders, dollies, swing wing units, steerable jinkers and platforms to a range of customers.

For the past two decades, it has also been supplying low loaders, dollies and semi-tippers from Richlands Equipment Sales (RES); widening low loaders, and 2×8 and 2×4 dollies from Ses Trailers; low loaders, wideners, and 2×8 and 2×4 dollies from New South Wales-based Brentwood Trailers; and custom-built 2×4 and 2×8 dollies from PEL.
