Daimler Truck and Bus Australia Pacific returns to partner TWAL in ‘Driving the Difference’ scholarship
Transport Women Australia Limited and Daimler Truck and Bus Australia Pacific are calling for applications for the ‘Driving the Difference’ scholarship program developed for women in the transport industry, as well as those wishing to join.
Following last year’s success in the initiative, Transport Women Australia Limited (TWAL) says it will again be offering scholarships to four women this year.
The scholarships enable women within the industry to undertake a course that will advance their careers or expand their knowledge to enhance their current position, or give other women the chance to become part of the industry.
Daimler Truck and Bus Australia Pacific president and CEO, Daniel Whitehead, says the Transport Women Australia Limited ‘Driving the Difference’ scholarships are an effective way to expand opportunities for women to explore career pathways and growth within what is still a male dominated industry,” Whitehead says.
TWAL chair, Jacquelene Brotherton says TWAL I are proud to be able to join once again with Daimler Truck and Bus Australia Pacific to present this second year of ‘Driving the Difference’ scholarships to enhance participation of women in the transport and logistics industry.
Daimler Truck and Bus Australia Pacific was the first commercial vehicle manufacturer to be accredited with the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) Employer of Choice for Gender Equality (ECOGE) in Australia.
The EOCGE classification is designed to encourage, recognise and promote an active commitment to achieving gender equality in Australian workplaces and is a voluntary leading practice recognition program that is separate to the Equal Opportunity Act.
The criteria focusses on preventing sex-based harassment and discrimination as well as targets for improving gender equality outcomes.
Whitehead says Daimler Truck and Bus remains firmly committed to attracting and retaining gender diverse talent and achieving true gender equality and pay equity.
“Daimler is committed to lead the way with the promotion of gender diversity benefits and equitable practices in the trucking and transport industry,” Whitehead says.
The program opened on September 3 and the closing date for applications is October 31. Scholarship recipients will be announced on November 16.
