Heavy Vehicle Industry Australia (HVIA) backs its most senior leaders to stay the course at an annual general meeting marked by the continued effects of the pandemic

With an online format accommodating members nationally, the meeting sees the re-election of Drake Group MD John Drake as president and Mario Colosimo as vice-president – the latter taking the MD’s role at SAF Holland Australia since the last election.

Casual vacancies filled by in July are now ratified, with the appointments of Daniel Whitehead, president and CEO of Daimler Truck and Bus Asia Pacific, and Roy Lombardi, CEO of Howard Porter in WA confirmed.

Other directors up for re-election included Ken Cowell, Rod Cunningham and John Thompson, who are all voted back onto the board.

"Running a business, as we all do, during a global pandemic has for many required a great deal of energy, resilience, and agility," Drake says, reflecting to members on a unique year.

"I have also never been prouder to be part of an association that has been able to mobilise very quickly to support and advise, making this challenging period a little easier.

"On behalf of the board and staff, I hope your experience was the same. We thank you for your ongoing loyalty and support in what has been truly turbulent times.

"Anecdotally, the fact that our membership has increased in recent months tells me that the efforts of the HVIA team were appreciated and valued.

"The board unashamedly set a direction of seeking closer ties with government nearly three years ago, and we feel this decision has been vindicated during the pandemic."

Heading into 2021, a year to be graced  by the sector’s pre-eminent showcase, HVIA vows  to continue providing "proactive thought leadership and a trusted voice advocating for the heavy vehicle industry".

"I don’t know about you, but the investment I make in HVIA’s membership gives me great comfort that I am part of a collective industry that together can ensure its voice is heard far quicker and with much greater impact then we can as separate and smaller entities," Drake says.

"As we look forward to the next year, it is of course a Brisbane Truck Show year and whilst there will be slight changes in order to ensure safety of both exhibitors and attendees, I’m absolutely confident that the planning and attention to detail will ensure it will come at just the right time for the industry to unite, come together and kickstart a post Covid-19 recovery."
