Northfleet claims Kwik from administration

Diversifying WA passenger transport firm gives big injection to its truck fleet

In an occurrence rare in Australian – let alone Western Australian – business annals, a bus company has taken over a trucking company.

Though it is not without trucks in its line-up, Northfleet primarily focuses on passenger transport hire in WA’s mining-centric north but also in Perth.

The company has taken to social media to say it had “successfully acquired Kwik Logistics”, a statement confirmed in a call to the company and in business news outlets in the state.

Kwik Transport and Crane Hire Pty Ltd has been under McGrathNicol voluntary administration for about two weeks.

With several large-scale construction projects commencing in 2022 and beyond, the acquisition builds on Northfleet Transport’s ability to offer clients a complete Transport solution for life of project requirements, the company later stated.

“We are very pleased to welcome Kwik Logistics into the Northfleet family and are excited by the complementary nature of our business’ in meeting our client Transport requirements,” Northfleet managing director Toby Hagen said.

“Leveraging our state-wide depot, workshop and operations teams we look forward to working with our clients in addressing their complete transport solutions, whether that be the hire of a mine spec LV or coach to large scale freight and asset movements.”

North Fleet counts itself the largest bus fleet provider in the Pilbara and had depots in Karratha, Port Hedland, Kalgoorlie and at its Perth headquarters.

Its truck compliment includes light and medium Isuxu and Hino rigids, though its social media presence notes the addition this month of an MAN prime mover as part of an expansion into transport in September.

This highlights a fleet of “prime movers, drop decks, flat top trailers and dollys” and includes images of a Mack and Mercedes-Benz prime movers.⁣

Kwik’s fleet is diverse and includes crane trucks along with a range of flat tops, tilt trays, low loaders, and semi tilt trays, while, on the heavier side, it notes a fleet of 30 prime movers and more than 70 trailers.

That side of the company focuses on transporting modular housing, mine accommodation installation and relocation and transport services to resources firms.
