Large-scale road rebuilding works will kick off on the Sunraysia Highway in Lascelles, a section of highway which links grain and produce farms from around the region to key domestic and international markets from early November.

Until late December, crews will be rebuilding a one-kilometre section of road, ensuring it is stronger and more stable to cater to high numbers of truck movements each day.

“We know how crucial the Sunraysia Highway is to the people and economy of Northern Victoria – that’s why we’re getting on with these vital works,” says minister for roads and roads safety Melissa Horne.

“By making sure that key freight connections like the Sunraysia are up to scratch, we’re helping to keep goods on the move, supporting thousands of jobs and driving our state’s economy forward.”

Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes says, “The road works along the Sunraysia Highway will ensure our leading grain and produce can reach the world for many years to come.”

The works will support the ongoing economic viability of the region’s grain and fresh fruit producers, as well as supporting the state-wide freight industry.

Victoria’s freight industry contributes $36 billion annually to the state’s economy and employs more than 260,000 people across the supply chains.

The freight and logistics industry are a major economic enabler, especially for our agricultural sector, employing more than 260,000 Victorians who produce and deliver the goods at home and abroad.

Right across Victoria, drivers can expect to see hundreds of major road repairs being delivered over the next nine months, all fuelled by a $964 million Victorian Government investment – the largest single-year spend on road maintenance in Victoria’s history.
