The Bauma international trade fair in Munich has seen the release of a new truck engine from both MAN and Cummins.
The new MAN engine, designed for construction and mining vehicles, will comply with the Euro VI emissions standards. Because of this, the engine will release significantly less pollutants. According to the press release, the other main draw for this engine appears to be its ability to draw higher torque at lower engine speeds.
In contrast, Cummins have unveiled two new engines, both of which are only Euro IV compliant.
The QSM12 is a 12-litre, 6 cylinder, and 512hp engine for heavy duty applications. At just 862kgs, it was designed to provide an impressive power-to-weight ratio.
The Executive director at Cummins Engines, Hugh Foden, said that the QSM12 “sets a new benchmark for heavy-duty engines with its ability to outperform any comparable engine, yet provides a smaller, lighter and simpler engine package to install.”
The QSF3.8 engine has 4 cylinders, 3.8 litres, and is capable of providing a power output of up to 132hp. According to the Hugh, with the QSF3.8 they tried to make the “simplest and smallest after treatment solution” they could develop.
The Bauma trade show is an annual event, currently running until April 21.
