NHVR announces National Network Map

The NHVRs National Network Map aims to give operators and road managers more national road information than ever before

The National Heavy Vehicle Regular (NHVR) has announced its National Network Map will be released on December 20, 2023.

Aiming to provide operators and road managers more national road information than ever before, the map will consolidate information nationally to provide a singular resource for the industry.

CEO Sal Petroccitto says in a statement that the industry regulator is honouring its commitment to enhancing and improving its services to its members.

“For the first time, the heavy vehicle industry and road managers will be able to see national road network information in one central location,” he says.

“The new map supports improved heavy vehicle access efficiency and decision making by bringing together the state-based heavy vehicle networks and displaying them in the National Network Map.

“We have worked closely with our jurisdictional and local government partners, including South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, and the Australian Capital Territory to transition their networks and achieve this important outcome.”

Pertoccitto says the map will consolidate information nationally to provide a singular resource for the industry.

“The launch of the new map will provide several key benefits by ensuring there is one single authoritative map to enable the heavy vehicle industry to route their journeys on approved state-based networks and allow for improved cross border access planning,” he says.

“Importantly, the map also provides the ability to search by and view available networks for more than 1,000 heavy vehicle configurations across the country.

“Significant work has been undertaken to ensure the National Network Map includes the right road ownership providing more comprehensive and accurate data for road managers when making access decisions.”

Other benefits will include an easily identifiable view of approved, conditional or restricted routes and map layers that can be toggled to identify any rest areas, height restrictions and road disruptions along your journey.

The Map will be available on the NHVR website upon its release.
