A new name, independent design and technology to match. The Antos meets the challenges of day-to-day operation with great prowess.

The new model bears a distinct resemblance to its heavy duty sibling the Actros. The distinctive new look of the Mercedes-Benz family has been carried over onto the Antos model, although the urban credentials of the new cab are plain to see.

One of the more defining features of the vehicle is the narrow 2.3 metre-wide cab.

Euro 6 engines provide power with ratings from 175kW in the 7.7 litre baby of the engine family up to 375kW for the 12.8 litre engine.

Torque varies from 1,000Nm at 1,200 to 1600 rpm, to 2,500Nm at 1,100 rpm in the larger engine.

As with Mercedes-Benz's other European competitors, a combination of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is used to meet Euro 6 standards.

Daimler is touting the new model range to be the first heavy duty model specifically designed and aimed at short-haul and distribution roles to date.

To further add to the specialisation, Mercedes-Benz is offering the new model range in two variants.

The 'Loader' boasts a lean tare weight of just 6,000kg for a Euro spec 4x2 prime mover, while the 'Volumer' has an ultra-low profile chassis to improve volume loading.

The Loader and Volumer moniker is also being used in the Actros range in an attempt at giving European operators a greater degree of flexibility.
