New Fuso Centre a Hint of Things to Come

Fuso’s new Geelong branch is officially open. Hosted by Australian Machinery Wholesalers (AMW) at Industrial Place in Breakwater, operations at the Fuso Geelong Truck and Bus Sales and Service Centre in Geelong have been gathering steam since December, when it handed over two Fighter models to the local branch of Star Track Express.

Fuso recently completed a deal for 185 new Canters with the Australia Post-owned transport firm, a long-term customer that is tackling the growth in the e-retail driven parcels sector.

Kolja Rebstock, Managing Director of Commercial Vehicles at Mercedes-Benz Australia/Pacific, which handles Fuso for parent firm Daimler, says AMW approached his company with an offer to host the Fuso presence and the deal was accomplished in a short seven months.

Rebstock says the attraction for his firm was the range of products and services also at the site.

This was an important aspect that will be a feature of the new Perth dealership, expected to be his firm’s biggest. It will have space for all three Daimler makes. The vision includes having “shops within shops”, a move that may prove something of a template in future.

Rebstock did not rule out the possibility of AMW taking on Daimler’s other truck marques, Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner.

AMW sells a range of new and used vehicles, equipment plant and machinery, including trucks, trailers and parts.

The firm, whose Geelong facility measures a total of 22,500 sq m, also has an owned fleet of four prime movers and trailers.
