Isuzu massages major light and medium models

Isuzu Australia has tweaked its N and F series range of light- and medium-duty trucks.

The old model Isuzu F Series

The N and F series trucks represent the backbone of Isuzu sales and from outward appearances, have seen only minor changes.

However, other changes under the skin round out what at first seems like a minor cosmetic upgrade.

The addition of three new model variants now brings Isuzu's Australian range to a total of 154.

Cosmetically, the N and F series have been given the matte silver highlight treatment around the speedometer and tachometer.

The interior door handles and trim have also received the same treatment.

Externally, the only really noticeable difference over previous models is the new cornering lamps incorporated into the front and side indicator housings.

These lamps light up when both the indicator and headlights are on to increase visibility when turning corners at night.

Not so obvious is the addition of rear disc brakes to selected N series models, while the F series gains a passenger side air bag on all models except 4x4 and CNG models.

Another admittedly less-sexy feature that is sure to get the attention of vehicle body builders is the addition of a Canbox module to the F series trucks.

The Canbox module enables body builders and other aftermarket equipment installers to access some parts of the vehicle CAN network without interfering with any of the trucks vital systems.

While this may seem a pretty uninspiring feature it can go a long way toward preventing all sorts of niggling faults afterwards.

Many truck bodies are now fitted with ignition lockouts to prevent the vehicle from being moved when doors are open or equipment is deployed.

We recently drove some examples of the revamped range through Victoria's Macedon Ranges as Isuzu enter what may well prove to be a quarter of a century of market domination in Australia.
