Recalls for Freightliner and Fuso models

Two models of Mercedes Benz Australia/Pacific trucks are being recalled.

The recalls have been issued by Product Safety Recalls Australia, part of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.

According to the recall notices, the problems involve the Freightliner Columbia and Fuso Canter.

In relation to the Columbias produced between July 2008 ans December 2011, the notice says the air tank securing brackets may develop cracks and this may result in air tanks falling from the vehicle.

“If the defect occurs, this may result in air loss in the braking system and debris being dropped onto the road,” it says.

In the case of the Mitsubishi Fuso Canters manufactured between March 2011 and June 2012, the notice says it is possible that the fuel return hose may detach.

“If the defect occurs, this may result in a fire hazard,” it says.

“A letter will be sent to affected owners. An additional hose clamp will be fitted to the fuel return hose. These repairs will be carried out free of charge and will take approximately one hour to complete.”

The Freightliner Columbia notice also says a letter will be sent to affected owners, adding: “Air tank brackets will be replaced free of charge.”
