Higer Announces Sponsorship of major cycling event (Advertisement)

(Advertisement) Higer Bus and Coach will be a presenting sponsor of the inaugural Variety Cycle fundraising event this year, with a Higer 28-seat bus to play a pivotal role in supporting cyclists as they ride over 3,500km to raise money for Variety - the children’s charity.

Higer will provide a fully maintained bus and an experienced driver, and will cover the cost of fuel during The Variety Cycle, which departs Sydney on 22 March and travels through Canberra, Melbourne and Adelaide before finally arriving at Uluru, in the Northern Territory in April.

Higer CEO Neil Bamford says the sponsorship provided an excellent opportunity for the company to support a worthy cause.

“Variety does simply outstanding work in improving the lives of Australian children with disabilities or serious medical conditions. Last year alone, Variety provided essential equipment for over 150,000 Australian children.

“Sponsoring this event allows Higer to support communities across the country. We’re very proud to be associated with such a highly regarded Australian charity.”

Neil says the Higer 28 seat bus is well suited to the demands of the long distance event.

“Our vehicles are made to stand up to Australia’s variable and often challenging conditions. The support vehicle will be on the road for up to six weeks by the time it gets to the starting point, travels the course, and then makes its way back to Sydney, so reliability, comfort and efficiency are all crucial.

“Throughout the event the bus will be used to transport Variety staff, injured or exhausted riders, and cyclist support teams. It will also be an important back up for cyclists should bad weather hit.

“The 28 seat model is very reliable and efficient, with a Cummins engine, Allison six speed automatic transmission, and WABCO ABS brakes. It features air conditioning, an automatic fold out step, three-point seatbelts and a quality audio system to ensure passengers enjoy a safe and comfortable ride.”

Variety’s Events Manager Claudia Milunsky says the Higer bus will be a key element of the Variety Cycle.

“Moving hundreds of people over the entire route, ensuring their safety and hosting a variety of community based events over 26 days is an enormous undertaking that requires an exhaustive list of resources. Our corporate partners are an integral part of The Variety Cycle and an imperative element of success. A reliable, comfortable support vehicle is essential to our ability to stage this event and we’re very pleased to have Higer on board.”

In addition to providing the bus, driver and fuel, Higer will also stage a welcome event at one of the stops along the route, and CEO Neil Bamford plans to join the cycling pack for part of the journey.

“I’ll be jumping on my bike for one leg of this event. The Variety Cycle has been designed so that ultra-keen cyclists can commit to the full 3,716km route, while others can join a week-long city to city cycle, a one or two-day cycle, or a fun bike-a-thon. Best of all for the cyclists, it is fully supported and everything will be taken care of, so all they need to do is hop on and ride.”
