Aftermarket towing manufacturer Hayman Reese has expanded its remote mount brake controller range with the CompactIQ, a proportional version of its time-activated Compact unit.

To be released later this month, the company says the new $250 unit is suitable for electromagnetic and hydraulic trailer brake systems and its minimalist design means it can be installed in a spare switch panel rather than through a truck’s dashboard or centre console.

While the time-activated Compact units utilise two dials, the CompactIQ features a single control dial and a LED indicator light that communicates whether the system is connected, braking or faulty.

The control dial enables the user to set the minimum braking force of the trailer but also includes an over-ride function that allows the user to set an additional level of braking power should it be required.

"The ‘Boost’ feature gives users the ability to apply more or less braking power when necessary," Hayman Reese says.

"By adjusting the Boost on the Output Control Dial, users can choose the minimum amount of braking force to apply when the brake pedal is first pressed. For heavier caravans and trailers more Boost can be used for greater braking control."

For operators with Hayman Reese towbars and wiring harnesses, the company says its proportional brake unit is SmartClick compatible and will be available through Hayman Reese stockists.
