A Renault plant in northern France is celebrating the production of its one-millionth second-generation Kangoo model.

Renault says the milestone Kangoo produced at the Maubeuge plant, which sits 10km from France’s northern border with Belgium and also manufactures Daimler’s Mercedes-Benz Citan vehicles, will be shipped to a retail customer in Japan.

The second-generation Kangoo range, available in three sizes, alongside the electric-powered Kangoo Z.E variant, has been on the market since 2007 after the 1998-designed first-generation gained a redesign.

Renault Maubeuge director Jose Martin Vega says the "Kangoo continues to appeal to a diverse clientele of both business and retail customers in all its markets."

"Our entire plant is proud to celebrate this new production landmark, which confirms our ability to meet customer expectations in terms of quality and lead times," he says.

Renault has produced 3.2 million Kangoo vans since its initial release in 1998, 1177 of which were part of the 3757 Renault vans sold in Australia last year.

The company produces all of its light commercial vehicles in France, with the Trafic models made in Sandouville and the Master vans manufactured in Batilly.
