Iveco launches Trakker 360AD 4×4 in Australia

Success in New Zealand means the Trakker 360AD 4x4 has headed across the ditch

Italian truck maker Iveco has announced the launch of an 18-tonne GVM Trakker 4×4 variant, taking the mantle as the company’s largest 4×4 model.

Having previously only been available in 6×6 variants, the new heavy-duty off-road Trakker 360AD features a Cursor 8 engine; a ZF 16-speed manual transmission, engaged via single dry plate clutch; and permanent 4×4 operation with hub reduction and triple differential locks (front, centre and rear).

The 7.8-litre 6-cylinder engine offers 265 kW (360hp) and 1500Nm of torque at 1,125 rpm thanks to the inclusion of direct injection technology, variable geometry turbo and an overhead camshaft design with four valves per cylinder.

Iveco says the Trakker meets the Euro 5 emissions standard via SCR technology and the Eurotronic 12-speed Automated Transmission is available as an option.

Targeting customers in the construction, mining and exploration, agricultural and emergency service fields, Iveco product spokesman Joel Read says the new 4×4 model “fills a niche between the Eurocargo 4×4 and the larger Trakker 6×6.”

“While there are similarities in applications the Trakker 4×4 and 6×6 models are targeted at, we’re finding that not all customers require a 33-tonne GVM off-road vehicle,” he says.

“The Trakker 4×4 has been available in New Zealand for some time and was well received there, and with its stellar off-road ability, we think it will develop a strong following in Australia as well.”

Iveco says when fitted with “the standard Michelin 385/65R22.5 XZY3 front and Michelin 315/80R22.5 XDY3 rear tyres,” the new Trakker runs 380mm off the ground at the front and 316mm at the rear.

Suspension for the new model comes in the form of rear parabolic leaf springs, and braking is dealt with by front and rear drum brakes fitted with anti-lock braking system (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Limitation (EBL), and Anti-Skid Regulator (ASR).

Iveco says the model is available at its dealerships.

The company has released a video with the launch, which is placed below.
