Scania recalls R series trucks

A small number of Scania trucks have been recalled over safety concerns

Scania has recalled a small number of R series trucks over problems with the fitted backrests, supplied by a third party.

According to an Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) statement, the truck maker has raised concerns over the safety standards of 11 vehicles in the event of a crash.

“Due to a deviation in the processes of the supplier, there is a risk that backrests have been supplied with lower durability,” the ACCC notice says.

“This could cause the occupant to be insufficiently restrained during a crash, which increases the risk of injury to the occupants.”

Sold nationally from Scania branches and dealers, the company recommends affected vehicles be taken to their closest location for a free-of-charge part replacement.

The affected vehicles have the following chassis serial numbers: 5396706, 5396743, 5396757, 5396762, 9199697, 9199720, 9199730, 9199735, 9199745, 9199762, and 9199781.
