Cummins extends ISXe5 oil drain intervals

For specific users of the 15-litre ISXe5, the interval has been pushed out to 60,000km

Engine manufacturer Cummins South Pacific has extended the oil drain intervals for its 15-litre ISXe5 on-highway engines out to 60,000km.

The extension applies to customers consuming over 1.5km/litre in normal applications, Cummins says, if they use Valvoline Premium Blue 8100 oil.

“The extended oil drain intervals further support our focus on delivering industry-leading total cost of ownership with the ISXe5,” director of on-highway business for Cummins South Pacific Mike Fowler says.

For customers using any 15W40 oil brand meeting CES 20081, the oil drain intervals can be extended to 50,000km.

Coming on the back of “most extensive oil validation field testing ever carried out by Cummins Inc,” Cummins says the announcement does not require oil sampling but does “require the use of Fleetguard’s fuel filter and its patented Nanonet technology for oil filtration.”

The company began looking into the extended intervals in 2014 and carried out over 12 months of field testing in a range of locations and applications, including single trailer, B-double, and roadtrain.

The field testing data covered over seven million kilometres.
