Scania to launch ready-built rear compactor

Low-profile compactor body fitted to a P310 will be on show in Melbourne this week

Swedish truck maker Scania is targeting the rear loader market with a new ready-built package offering on P-series trucks.

According to Scania, the 6×4 solution includes a 20m3 low-profile Superior Pak compactor body with a 7.4-tonne payload built onto the back of a P310.

“With the new ready-built Scania P310 rear loader we are looking to capitalise on the success we have had with our front loader in the waste contractor market,” Scania Australia national sales manager Dean Dal Santo says.

“Scania has carved a reputation for robustness, economy of operation and driver comfort in the waste industry and we provide a superior driving experience for operators.

“Thanks to our decades of experience in this sector, Scania has perfected chassis integration for compactor bodies and hydraulic controls, with a powerful and reliable PTO allowing high reliability of operation, in line with Scania’s dedication to maximum uptime.”

With SCR five-cylinder engine that delivers 310hp and 1550Nm of torque between 1,100-1,350 rpm, the truck maker says the P310 offers “plenty of performance and very frugal fuel consumption.”

While the rear body sits below the height of the P310 cab – for clearance during residential and city work – inside the two-step-entry cab Scania has a fully-automated 2-pedal Opticruise transmission, “comfortable seats, low engine noise, and excellent visibility”.

“Other driver-friendly features include electronically-controlled disc brakes, EBS with integrated ABS and traction control and hill hold,” Scania says. “A power divider and differential lock are also standard for superior traction.”

In other specifications, the cab can hold seating for three; the fuel capacity sits at 300-litres of diesel; there is room for 55-litres of AdBlue; the wheelbase is 5,375mm, and the tare weight is 8,230kg.

The Scania P310 with the low-profile compactor body will be on display at the 2016 ITTES from May 5.
