Tautliner models are now able to include a new load restraint system that promises safety and efficiency benefits
Freighter’s tautliner trailers now have the option of shipping with two new load restraint systems after the trailer manufacturer announced a premium ‘Sliding Post Load Restraint Gates’ model and an entry level ‘Hanging Load Restraint Gates’ model.
Available as optional upgrades to all of its tautliner models, Freighter says both systems have been “designed to reduce maintenance requirements and improve work health and safety for operators.”
With a load restraint of up to 1,300kg per pallet, the trailer maker says the systems can be ordered in varying heights, are wear resistant, efficient to use, and, thanks to its “integrated spring design”, lightweight for workers.
“It’s a significant work health and safety advantage,” Freighter general manager Mario Colosimo says of the ‘Sliding Post Load Restraint Gates’ model.
“We have practically eliminated the risk of shoulder injuries from lifting heavy gates and, because they are fixed to the trailer, there is no chance of gates falling on the driver as they are effortlessly opened and moved aside.”
The premium option’s posts and components are all housed within the gates making it possible for a 22-pallet tautliner to be opened in six movements.
“The unique and innovative gate mechanism also allows for the removal of additional moving parts in comparison to a number of existing systems, which increases reliability and uptime,” Colosimo says.
The lower-end option, the ‘Hanging Load Restraint Gates’ model, is an adaption of a normal hanging gate.
According to Colosimo, the system has been created by adding tabs to the gates and posts, which each add strength and resistance to any loads resting against it.
“It’s a simple innovation that easily adds a rated load restraint to a tried and tested system,” he says.
“The uncomplicated construction also makes the gates just as easy to repair or replace as non-rated gates.”
To remove the majority of the weight from the hanging gates, Freighter has included a SpringASSIST system which attaches to the gates and aids in the lifting of gates in and out of position.
“Improving work health and safety when working in and around our trailers is one of MaxiTRANS’ main considerations during the innovation process,” Colosimo says. “The design of both new load restraint gates has been no different.”
Freighter says both models also tackle vibration and track wear by ensuring the posts provide a constant upward force during transit.
