VW reveals details of new Crafter models

2017 Volkswagen Crafter range to feature new Euro 6 engines and new look

Details have emerged in Europe of the next Volkswagen Crafter range to hit the market.

Shipping with the option of a new Euro 6 2.0-litre diesel engine, the 2017 Crafter model range sports a new design and a number of customisable options.

Available in four base models – a 100hp (75kW), 120hp (90kW), and 140hp (103kW), plus a bi-turbo TDI with 175hp (130kW) – the new range has three length and three height options; the choice of front, rear, and all-wheel drive (4Motion); and the option of manual or automatic transmissions.

While torque details are yet to be announced, interior details include a range of driver assistance systems.

Volkswagen says these include “ESP with trailer stabilisation, ACC Adaptive Cruise Control, post-collision braking system, side wind compensation system and a trailer manoeuvring assistant system”.

The new models will also feature front, side, and head airbags for both the driver and passengers, and a reversing camera, parking distance monitor, and the Rear Traffic Alert system.

LED headlights, cornering lights, and Light Assist are also available with the new range.

Outside the cabin, Volkswagen says the redesign “combines extensive cargo capacity with minimal external dimensions, making it extremely manoeuvrable yet solid in its handling, regardless of payload.”

Described as a “completely new vehicle,” Volkswagen says the models will be produced out of a new facility in Poland.
