LDV joining one-tonne ute market

Chinese commercial vehicle maker to bring ute to Australia

Chinese automotive giant SAIC Motor has unveiled the LDV T60 one-tonne ute scheduled to arrive in Australia in the second-half of next year.

Launched at the Guangzhou International Motor Show last week, the commercial vehicle will ship initially in a 4×4 dual-cab model with a five-star ANCAP safety rating.

Further models, in single-cab, extended-cab and double-cab variants, will follow, as will the option of two tray lengths, rear- or four-wheel drive, and manual and automatic gearboxes.

It is also believed the models will come with six airbags, a number of electronic safety and driver fatigue systems, reversing camera, and a galvanised steel chassis.

While powertrain details are yet to be confirmed, LDV says there will be three performance modes for drivers to select the correct vehicle response for the current job, selecting one of normal, eco or power.

Reports suggest the engine options may be a 133hp 1.8-litre petrol engine, a 2.0-litre petrol and a 150hp 2.8-litre diesel engine.

Also named the Maximus T60, the pickup will be available for Chinese customers in March.

LDV already has a presence in Australia though its van range. The G10 has been reviewed by Trade Trucks

The company also recently expanded the commercial vehicle range.
