Fleet management technology will be replaced before the network is shutdown
Scania is looking for customers of its 2G Communicator ‘Black Box’ vehicle and driver data management system, offering to upgrade the finite technology for free.
The technology, which has been fitted as standard in all trucks and buses from the brand over the past two years and on the market for a further three, will cease to work with the closure of the 2G network in Australia, which begins in December. More on the closure here.
Scania says it has been contacting affected customers, but not all have responded and are in line to miss out on the free upgrade.
Without the new part, GPS tracking, fleet management reporting and remote diagnostics will cease to work.
The truck maker will replace the 2G model for a 3G or 4G compliant one and update the complying software over the next few months at a time suitable for the customer, such as a scheduled service.
“Naturally we want all of our customers who use the Scania Communicator to be able to continue to receive their data downloads as seamlessly as possible,” Scania Australia’s after sales national manager Sean Corby says.
“The new Scania Communicator we are offering to install is 3G and 4G compliant and records data from a wide a variety of parameters that allow Scania operators to know exactly how their vehicles are performing.
“Through fleet management systems such as Scania Optimise, this data, once analysed, allows them to identify and combat incidences of waste, misuse or potentially unsafe driving.
“The Scania Communicator feeds data through Scania Optimise to allow operators to improve the profitability of their operations, as well as ensure their vehicles are serviced on time.”
Scania Australia has put a deadline of December 1 for customers.
