Toyota recalls HiAce models

Over 500 HiAce vans have been recalled over sliding door problems

Toyota Motor Corporation Australia has recalled approximately 536 HiAce Crew Van models over issues with the side sliding doors.

According to an Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) notice, the affected HiAce LWB Diesel Crew Van models “are equipped with a single latch system on the side sliding doors which does not meet the requirements of the relevent Australian Design Rule (ADR).”

“Non compliance to the relevant ADR and may pose as a safety hazard if the door was to unlatch whilst the vehicle was in motion,” it says.

Sold nationally between January 6, 2015 and October 26, 2016, Toyota says affected owners will be contacted by mail at their last known address, inviting them to contact their nearest dealership to organise to have a recall carried out free of charge.

List of affected vehicles’ VIN numbers is available here.
