Top October has trucks sales eyeing record year

Heavy-duty segment in rally effort as light-duty trucks still do the business

Top October has trucks sales eyeing record year
Mack had and outstanding sales month in October

There appears no stopping the light-duty trucks segments as monthly sales consolidate in the four figure territory it momentarily visited in June.

Having busted through the 1000-mark in September, the monthly total hit 1,059 last month, the Truck Industry Council’s T-Mark figures show.

Isuzu led the charge, hitting 401 units, down from June’s 436 but up from other monthly totals this year that were mostly in the 300s.

Medium-duty trucks, however, were unable to sustain their run above the 600 units in each of the last two months, sinking to 594 and not a patch on the pre-end of financial year total of 807 in June.

The headline act, however, was the much-maligned heavy-duty market, with its 871 total beating June’s 808 comfortably and shading last October’s 862.

Mack drove most of the October leap, reaching three figures, 107 units, for the first time this year, 32 units up on September. It was Mack’s best October this decade.

It was the first year-on-year October rise since 2012.

In vans, the big move was Renault’s, as the make is prone to do on occasion.

This time it lifted total sales from 90 in September to 159, seven units away from leader Mercedes-Benz.

Total commercial vehicle sale in year-to-date terms, at 26,947, was up on last year’s 26,080 and the highest for the decade.
