Models built from late 2012 are potentially susceptible to a lamp issue
Volvo Trucks Australia is recalling a number of current model FH trucks in a precautionary move to address a fault with some cab interior lamps.
While no incidents have occurred locally as of yet, the truck maker says there may be an issue in the future if the models built between November 26, 2012 and September 12, 2016 are not inspected.
“In some rare cases, moisture and dust between the electrical guide ways on the lamp Printed Circuit Board (PCB), could lead to a ‘soft’ short circuit, otherwise known as a current leak,” a Volvo spokesperson says.
“In some cases, the fuses intended to protect the cab interior electrical system may not detect a ‘soft’ short circuit, therefore Volvo Trucks has made the decision to recall all trucks with this particular cab interior lamp as a precautionary measure.
“Whilst there has been no local incidents reported a result of this fault, and chance of an incident occurring is very small, with safety as a core value Volvo Trucks Australia has made the decision to recall these trucks as a precautionary measure.”
The company says it has already begun to inform all impacted customers in writing and has already begun proceedings to rectify the vehicles.
It is encouraging customers to contact their local dealer or authorised workshop to organise a time to have their vehicle inspected and fixed at no cost.
