Renault is set to expand its light commercial vehicles (LCV) range in 2017 with the launch of the Trafic Crew and an updated Kangoo sporting a new 1.2 litre turbo petrol engine.
The Trafic Crew features a second row of seating for 3 passengers and a glazed internal bulkhead between the passenger and load compartments.
The Crew will be also be available in an aptly named Lifestyle variant featuring more a bit more bling on the exterior and climate control in an effort to snare dual purpose van buyers.
“The Trafic Crew brings another level of functionality to what is already a highly capable and increasingly popular alternative to more mainstream mid-size van offerings,” Renault LCV senior model line manager Lyndon Healey says.
“Renault’s light commercial vehicle offering continues to expand with the Trafic Crew joining the updated Kangoo with its new 1.2 litre turbocharged engine in the 2017 line-up.
“The Trafic Crew is perfect for customers looking for a dual purpose vehicle that’s equally capable of carrying people or payload.
“There’s as much space behind the rear seats as you’ll find in a Kangoo Maxi.”
Both crew van models are offered as a long wheel base and utilise the Renault’s 1.6 litre bi-turbo diesel engine.
And optional Premium Pack adds 17-inch alloy wheels, touchscreen multi-media system, heavy duty battery, dark cloth upholstery and some bling touches around the dash to both variants.
The Premium Pack also adds colour coded exterior plastics.
The Trafic Crew vans feature a load area of 4 cubic metres and have a payload capacity of 1,060kg.
The addition of a crew van to the mid-sized front wheel drive Trafic will enable the French LCV giant to tackle market leaders and major competitors Toyota and Hyundai head on in the dual role market.
Sales figures differentiating between crew and non-crew variants aren’t currently available.
However, with little growth in the LCV segment recently the challenge for manufacturers is to tease out new roles for these vehicles.
