Hino 300 Series recalled over airbag issue

Replacement parts will not be available until the fourth quarter of 2017

Certain models of Hino 300 Series trucks have been recalled over an airbag inflator issue.

"The front passenger airbag inflator may be susceptible to moisture intrusion over time due to insufficient protection against moisture absorption into the propellant," an Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) notice states.

The moisture intrusion can cause the inflator to rupture if the airbag is activated, resulting in injury to the vehicle occupants.

Owners are advised to visit their nearest Hino dealer to have the passenger airbag assembly inspected and replaced.

However, the notice states that replacement parts for the affected vehicles will not be available until the fourth quarter of 2017.

Owners will be contacted by direct mail when the parts are available at the stores.
