Rhino marks 45th year with record orders

A focus on producing tippers, low loaders and livestock crates “exceptionally well”, rather than chasing volume, has delivered the Davey Group’s Rhino Trailers a record order book

Family-owned and operated Rhino Trailers is marking its 45th year in business with a record order book.

A part of the Davey Group of companies, CEO Tony Davey attributes the company’s robust sales to a focus on producing aluminium/high-tensile steel tippers, low loaders, livestock crates and associated equipment “exceptionally well rather than trying to deliver more units to market”.

Rhino Trailers has rationalised its product range to support three sectors of transport: livestock, bulk transport and heavy haulage.

Improvements in quality during the build, and the quality of the finish, have also played a key role in Rhino Trailers’ success, he adds.

Housed on an 11-acre site, the company’s 40,000-square-metre factory at Toowoomba, staffed by about 120 highly skilled tradespeople, features a comprehensive offering under one roof, including a protective coatings facility, as well as facilities for servicing, modifications and refurbishments.

Rhino Trailers operates  a full maintenance facility along with repair bay and a new 1000sqm sandblast and paint facility which includes a 24-metre long baking oven, which supports the  trailer manufacturing production line to provide a one-stop outlet for all trailer requirements.

Davey says the in-house protective coating division gives Rhino Trailers full control over painting and baking with two-pack paint processes.

Under this one-stop shop model, Rhino is also promoting full refurbish and major crash repairs to ensure it can offer as much support to the end user as possible.

“Davey Group’s family culture assists us to quickly develop and maintain working relationships which is allowing significant growth in tight markets,” Davey says.

“Continual improvement through our experience and industry feedback is a strong focus and the level of repeat business secured is testament to delivering on that promise.”

To sustain its strong position, Davey says Rhino Trailers is investing heavily in research and development.

New products under development include 4×2 stock rates; as well as refined features in its growing low-loader offerings.

Formerly known as Lusty Low Loaders, Rhino Low Loaders was formed in Kempsey over 25 years ago. The business moved to Queensland in 2004 and was purchased by Davey Group and relocated to Toowoomba in 2007. It has since undergone extensive design review to ensure the range of trailers are designed and manufactured to highest standards.

Rhino Low Loaders low-loader range includes 6×8 floats, 2- or 3-axled tag-along trailers, three- or four-row deck wideners, right up to 3×8 or 4×8 larger trailers.

The company is also focused on reducing lead times through improved manufacturing processes.

Davey Group is an internationally competitive civil, structural and mechanical engineering group offering standard engineered products as well as design and construct capabilities servicing the government, mining, oil and gas, road transport, agriculture and forestry sectors.
