Mack Anthem breaks cover in Australia

Elusive bulldog spotted in Followmont Transport livery

Just when it seemed that Mack’s new Anthem was drifting aimlessly in a mystical ‘Never-Never’ for the Australian market, an avid reader found these images of the new bulldog about to start real world trials with Brisbane-based Followmont Transport.

We’ve been writing articles about Anthem for more than two years, including a trip in early 2018 to Mack HQ in the United States.

However, other than the appearance of a cut-away version at last year’s Brisbane Truck Show, the new model has been kept under tight wraps.

For much of those two years, repeated undertakings from senior Mack executives that we would ‘soon’ be given a closer look at early trial units have failed to materialise.

Our information is that there has been no shortage of development difficulties for the Australian market but as these images suggest, at least some of those difficulties may now be behind Mack.

However, given that the truck pictured here is a day cab model, perhaps there are still issues with finalising an expanded range of sleeper sizes for our market.

There’s no official word when Anthem will be launched here but a betting man might wager something small on an appearance late this year.

If not, well, maybe it truly is on the ‘Never-Never’.
