Used truck enquiries off to flying start


Buyer interest in used trucks has surged in the first two months of 2021

 

Buyer enquiries on Australia’s leading transport and machinery classifieds network were up an incredibly strong 43 per cent increase in the first two months of 2021, new data reveals.

Some 3,143 trucks – from beavertails to water carriers – are currently advertised for sale across the network comprising BusNews.com.au, Fullyloaded.com.au, OwnerDriver.com.au, TradeTrucks.com.au, TradeEarthmovers.com.au, TradeFarmMachinery.com and TradePlantEquipment.com.au, reaching almost 500,000 unique visitors in January alone.

Tray tops, hook-lifts, refuse and concrete pump trucks recorded the biggest year-on-year (YoY) increases in enquiries, on the back of a 22.4 per cent lift in searches in the period.

Enquiries on tray tops jumped 450 per cent (and searches +111.2 per cent) across January and February, ahead of hook-lift (+200 per cent in enquiries; -3.5 per cent in searches), refuse (+100 per cent in enquiries; +19.7 per cent in searches), concrete pump (+100 per cent in enquiries; -43.1 per cent in searches), and prime mover trucks (+74.8 per cent in enquiries; 10.4 per cent in searches).

Rounding out the top 10 were cab chassis (+65.2 per cent in enquiries; +25.5 per cent in searches), crane (+61.5 per cent in enquiries; +46.5 per cent in searches), pantech (+60.6 per cent in enquiries; +55.1 per cent in searches), concrete mixer (+50 per cent in enquiries; +5.8 per cent in searches) and tipper trucks (+42.3 per cent in enquiries; +5.8 per cent in searches.

By major brand, Mercedes-Benz, International and Hino notched up the biggest YOY growth in enquiries, the data shows.

While Nissan (+900 per cent) and Cat (+300 per cent) experienced the largest increases in enquiries, both were off very small bases. 

Among the majors Benz led the way with a 230.8 per cent jump in enquiries (and 8.5 per cent lift in searches), followed by International (+200 per cent), Hino (+114.3 per cent) and MAN (+100 per cent). Freightliner (+83.9 per cent), Volvo (+76.7 per cent), Iveco (+75 per cent), Mitsubishi (+62.5 per cent), Scania (+57.9 per cent) and Mack (+44.2 per cent) also experienced strong growth in buyer interest.
