Queensland governments considers new Bruce Highway Western Alternative alignment

The new alignment options come after the Queensland government ruled out original options for the Bruce Highway

The Queensland government has revealed it is exploring an alternative alignment for the fourth stage of its future Bruce Highway Western Alternative (BHWA) corridor.

Due to the original options being ruled out, the department of transport and main roads is considering more than 850 feedback submission received during 10 weeks of consultation held from late 2023 to early 2024.

After listening to feedback, the state government ruled out original options while investigations into a new alignment are continuing into early this year.

The majority of feedback was on concerns about potential property impacts, the preservation of the natural environment, lifestyle changes, cultural heritage considerations and public and active transport improvements.

The new alignment for the BHWA will be between Beerburrum and Moodlu, with ongoing investigations also happening for the future Moreton Motorway.

Transport and main roads minister Brent Mickelberg says the Queensland government had heard the community’s concerns and the previous routes shared with the community in late 2023 have now been ruled out.

“New investigations into an alternative route are nearing completion and are expected to be complete in early 2025, when a more detailed project update can be provided,” Mickelberg says.

“We’re not just planning for a future motorway; we’re shaping the future of transport in our state, ensuring it is integrated, sustainable and serves our rapidly growing communities and keeps Queenslanders moving.”
