Submissions for Heavy Vehicle Safety Initiative program about to close

Round 9 of the Heavy Vehicle Safety Initiative (HVSI) grants program is now open and will close on February 19 2024

Submissions are still open for Round 9 of the Heavy Vehicle Safety Initiative (HVSI), to fund new projects that will boost heavy vehicle safety and deliver tangible improvements for industry.

The Australian Government has committed $4.4 million for Round 9 of the HVSI, run by the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR).

Project submissions must directly address at least one of the themes – safer drivers, safer vehicles or safer road use – by investing in driver or supply chain skills and training, vehicle safety technologies and improvements, or heavy vehicle educational tools and resources.

Applications will close at 5pm AEST February 19 2024.

Federal assistant infrastructure and transport minister Carol Brown says previous rounds of the HVSI have funded crucial projects such as roadside health and wellness screening, online training programs, and increasing safety for vulnerable road users.

“I encourage any business or association involved in the heavy vehicle industry looking to address a safety gap or issue, to apply,” she says.

“We look forward to investing in new projects that will continue to keep road safety front of mind, and in turn, reduce road trauma and save lives.”

The Australian Government has invested more than $38 million across 153 HVSI projects since the program commenced in 2016.

Previously, $3.8 million was invested into 12 heavy vehicle safety initiatives through Round 8 of the HVSI program.

The application form and project guidelines, which detail eligibility and the submission process, are available at www.nhvr.gov.au/hvsi.
