The Golden Highway is undergoing a $3.25 million upgrade to a one-kilometre section of the highway to deliver safer journeys through the Upper Hunter.

TfNSW executive director Greg Collins says the project has resulted in improved conditions for motorists.
“Safety is our top priority for all road users across New South Wales, and this work has delivered a safer road surface on the Golden Highway about eight kilometres south of Cassilis,” he says.
“Now completed, work to strengthen and repair the road involved reconstruction of the road pavement as well as resealing the road surface and shoulders.
“In addition, new line markings have been installed including an improved centreline, new advisory and directional signage, and we’ve carried out some minor vegetation removal.
The Golden Highway is a critical link that is relied on by up to 2,500 road users daily, particularly for the agricultural and mining industries, connecting the Hunter Valley and the Central West.
“This work will provide safer, more reliable and more comfortable journeys for years to come, which is great news for locals, visitors and freight operators,” Collins says.
The NSW Government funded this project through its Flexible Pavement Rehabilitation program.
