Launched from the Coles Distribution Centre (DC) at Kewdale, the two new trucks will replace conventional diesel-powered trucks, abating approximately 100 tonnes of CO2 emissions per vehicle annually, and are capable of travelling up to 270kms on a single charge.
Expected to complete up to 52 deliveries to Coles stores across Perth each week, the electric vehicles (EVs) offer a quieter and lower emission transport solution.
“This partnership marks a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to reduce emissions associated with our transportation network,” Coles state transport manager Ian Kitching says.
“Welcoming our first electric heavy vehicles to our fleet in Perth is more than just a technological upgrade, it’s a long-term investment in developing a more sustainable supply chain.
“Insights from this initiative will support broader industry efforts to transition to lower emissions freight transport across Australia.”
As part of this co-investment with Coles, the initiative also includes a dedicated dual port 180kw charging station at their Kewdale DC.
The electric heavy vehicles are also equipped with advanced safety systems and technology designed to protect drivers, enhance service delivery performance, and support community safety.
This initiative forms part of Toll’s $67 million investment in battery electric heavy vehicles and charging infrastructure, co-funded by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) through its ‘Driving the Nation’ program.
