Truckies scrambled over to Tooradin for the event of the year

However, this weekend, not only were the truck engines roaring, but a plane was soaring over Tooradin, wowing crowds as it looped and manoeuvred through the air.

“Personally, it was the highlight of my day,” event president Allyn Reeve says.

“We’ve had this pilot for a couple of years, but for some reason, this year he just went that extra yard, and did a little bit more, it was absolutely magnificent.”

The town gathered to view a bustling field full of 110 trucks, but as the day had just started to kick off, the weather had other ideas, dropping heavier than expected rainfall.

Despite the weather’s best efforts to dampen the mood, this year’s show was another roaring success.

Polishing up the rigs real good

“By the afternoon, we had about 3,000 to 4,000 people,” Allyn says.

As a transport industry veteran himself, he knows trucks like the back of his hand and has seen every kind, from massive Kenworths to eye-catching custom models.

“There were a bloody lot of nice trucks,” he chuckled. “There were all sorts of shapes and sizes, everything was well represented and there were plenty of Kenworths as you can imagine.”

One thing you can always count on at the Tooradin Truck Show is the spectacle.

The big crowd wasn’t there for just the trucks; they came for the full experience.

“We had a modified tractor pull, which went from three in the afternoon until 10 o’clock at night,” Allyn says.

And while the weather caused some challenges, things cleared up beautifully by evening.

“A day like this means a lot to our team and we are really disappointed about the weather. All the money we make we give away to charities and hospitals, so it was disappointing to see.”

“But from what I read on Facebook, yes people got wet, but they enjoyed the truck show, and that’s what it’s all about.”

Happy faces filled Tooradin
